When your client expects you to perform miracles on social media, it can be a real struggle to deliver! 🤪

As social media managers, we've all encountered clients who might not have a clear understanding of the role social media plays in their overall business strategy. This lack of clarity can lead to frustration for both the social media manager and the client. Let's explore some common misconceptions about social media management and shed light on what's realistic and what isn't.

🫶 Misconception 1: Social Media Managers Control Virality

While social media managers CAN and DO create engaging and shareable content, virality is a phenomenon largely based on external factors such as timing, luck, and audience engagement. We can certainly do our best to predict what content will perform well based on data and trends, but that doesn't mean we can guarantee virality.

🩹 Misconception 2: Social Media Managers Fix Broken Products or Services

Social media managers can help manage and address negative feedback, but they CANNOT fix a fundamentally flawed product or service. It's crucial to vet every aspect of a client's marketing funnel before taking on a project. Sometimes, we're brought in as the magical cure-all for something that's been broken for a verrrry long time.

👀 Misconception 3: Social Media Managers Guarantee Sales

Social media managers can drive traffic to a website or a landing page, but the decision to purchase ultimately lies with the consumer. Many factors come into play, including what's being sold, the price point, perceived quality, website design, and more. Our role is to facilitate the journey to a purchase, but we can't force it.

❌ Misconception 4: Social Media Managers Control Comments and Sentiment

While social media managers CAN monitor and moderate comments and messages, we CANNOT control what people say about a brand or prevent negative comments from being posted. Social media is a platform for open dialogue, and public opinion can't always be controlled.

👉 Misconception 5: Social Media Management Is a One-Person Show

Social media management requires collaboration and support from other teams within a company. We work closely with marketing, creative, sales, and customer service teams to ensure a holistic approach to the brand's online presence. It's a team effort!

managing social media effectively involves setting realistic expectations and understanding the platform’s limitations. While we can work wonders to enhance a brand’s online presence, there are certain aspects beyond our control. Building a successful social media strategy requires collaboration, adaptability, and a clear understanding of what can and cannot be achieved.
